A flashlight is a portable, battery-operated device used for illumination.
A basic flashlight has four components; a battery, a bulb, a switch and a metal strip that connects the other components. Formerly, the light source was typically a miniature incandescent light bulb, but these have been displaced by light-emitting diodes since the mid-2000s.

Futurama has an extensive range of flashlights on offer. Below are 7 different types that Futurama offers:

Search Flashlights

Search flashlights (commonly referred to as floodlights) have a high lumen output and a widespread to light up as much area in front of you as possible. These are commonly used by Search and Rescue, firemen and law enforcement.

Tactical Flashlights

Tactical flashlights are purpose-built flashlights that can either be weapon-mounted or used in hand and have multiple modes including a strobe function for tactical scenarios.

Everyday Carry (EDC) Flashlights

Everyday Carry (EDC) flashlights are small-purpose flashlights that are powerful but compact enough to always carry with you.

Diving Flashlights

Diving Flashlights are lightweight and durable flashlights specifically designed for casual divers to be used in any underwater environment.

Headlamps

A Headlamp or Headlight is a light source affixed to the head for outdoor activities at night or in dark conditions such as caving, hiking, skiing, camping or mountain biking.

Weapon Mounted Flashlights

As the name suggests, Weapon Mounted flashlights are specifically designed for use on pistols and AR rifles. These lights are usually very compact and come in many variations, including laser options.

Bicycle Lights

Bike lights are high-performance lights that can be mounted to your bicycle handlebars to provide you with enough light. Whether you are cycling at night or just want to be visible on the road, this is the light for you!

How to choose your Flashlights:

Although headlamps have surged in popularity, flashlights remain a good choice whenever a handheld light is preferred, such as:

  • Any time you want the strongest portable beam available.
  • When dexterity and precision in controlling the light are important.
  • Being able to set down a light to work on a task.
  • Signaling

Advances in LED technology and battery efficiency have resulted in flashlights that are smaller, lighter and brighter than they were just a few years ago.

Shopping in person? Check out the following:

  • How does the light switch on and off? Could it be inadvertently switched on inside your pack? Or, if you plan to use it in cold conditions, how easily could you switch it on or off wearing gloves?
  • Does it appear rugged enough (or, conversely, light enough) for your needs?
  • How does it feel in your hand?
  • Is it required to change batteries?

Introduced in 2009, ANSI FL1 standards for flashlights ensure that models are tested and rated in the same way. Compliance with these standards is voluntary and the manufacturers do their testing, but most major brands now include the following performance data on their packaging: light output, beam distance, run time, impact resistance and water resistance.
