Description

Introducing the Sony FE 400m F4.5 GM OSS Telephoto Lens. A compact super-telephoto prime designed to deliver high-resolution performance with the portability expected from Sonys G Master range. Built for Sony E-mount 35 mm full-frame cameras, it provides a fixed 400 mm focal length for photographing distant subjects with excellent detail. When used with an APS-C camera or in APS-C crop mode, the lens provides an equivalent focal length of approximately 600 mm, extending its reach even further. Its advanced optical construction consists of 22 elements arranged in 16 groups and incorporates Super ED and ED glass elements to help minimise chromatic aberration and maintain clarity throughout the image. Sonys Nano AR Coating II is applied to help suppress internal reflections, flare and ghosting, supporting improved contrast and colour reproduction in challenging lighting conditions. The G Master optical design is engineered to provide outstanding sharpness and fine detail across the frame.

The lens features a maximum aperture of F4.5 and a minimum aperture of F32, providing a useful balance between light-gathering capability, depth-of-field control and compact dimensions. An 11-blade circular aperture contributes to smooth background rendering and attractive bokeh, helping subjects stand out naturally against their surroundings. The full-frame angle of view is approximately 610', narrowing to around 410' when used in APS-C format. Fast autofocus performance allows the lens to take advantage of the full AF capabilities of compatible Sony cameras, making it suitable for tracking moving subjects such as wildlife, birds and sporting action. Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation is built into the lens to help reduce the visible effects of camera shake, particularly when shooting handheld or working at slower shutter speeds.

The Sony FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS has a minimum focusing distance of 2.5 m (8.21 ft) and provides a maximum magnification ratio of 0.18x. It is compatible with Sonys SEL14TC 1.4x and SEL20TC 2.0x teleconverters, offering additional flexibility when greater focal reach is required. A 95 mm filter thread is provided, while the lens uses a round, bayonet-type hood. Despite its substantial 400 mm focal length, the lens maintains a relatively compact and lightweight design. It measures approximately 108 mm in diameter by 242 mm in length (4-1/4 x 9-1/2 in.) and weighs approximately 994 g (35.1 oz.). Combining G Master optical performance, advanced ED glass, Optical SteadyShot stabilisation and strong autofocus capabilities, the Sony FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS offers a highly capable solution for photographers who require long telephoto reach without the bulk typically associated with larger super-telephoto lenses.
