Introducing the Spyderco Swick 5 Spyder Edge Fixed Knife. A compact, purpose-built personal-defense tool designed by Spyderco co-founder Sal Glesser and inspired by the innovative work of French knifemaker Fred Perrin. It is engineered around a highly distinctive index-finger hole design that locks the knife securely into the users hand, providing exceptional grip retention and control under dynamic conditions. With an overall length of 5.87 inches (149 mm), the Swick 5 is compact enough for discreet carry while still offering a confident, full-hand interface.

At the core of the design is a 2.73-inch (69 mm) Wharncliffe blade made from LC200N steel, a nitrogen-based alloy known for its outstanding corrosion resistance and toughness. This makes the knife especially well-suited for environments where moisture, humidity, or salt exposure are concerns. The blade features a SpyderEdge fully serrated configuration, which enhances cutting performance on fibrous and resilient materials. Its full-flat grind improves slicing efficiency, while the blade geometry emphasizes controlled, straight-line cutting. One of the most defining features of the Swick 5 is its oversized 1.03-inch (26.1 mm) index-finger hole. This Perrin-inspired design anchors the knife directly to the users hand, significantly improving retention and stability during use. The full-tang construction and pistol-grip-style handle further enhance structural integrity and ergonomics. Peel-ply-textured G-10 scales are secured with concealed internal pins, offering a secure grip surface while maintaining a streamlined profile.

Additional control features include strategically placed jimping along the spine, which acts as a thumb ramp for improved leverage and precision. This allows for confident manipulation even in high-stress situations or wet conditions. Despite its robust construction, the Swick 5 remains extremely lightweight at just 1.9 ounces (54 grams), making it easy to carry without burden. Instead of a traditional folding mechanism, the Swick 5 is a fixed-blade design and is paired with a custom-molded Boltaron sheath. This sheath includes a fully adjustable G-Clip for versatile carry options and a breakaway ball chain for alternative neck carry configurations.
